Oh, Sleep. I remember you, old friend. I wish we had time to get reacquainted.
Someone scheduled me for a 7 am meeting today. Evan wouldn't go to bed until 1 am (which has been sort of normal for the past few days). Then he woke up every couple hours. In between, he hit and kicked and wiggled in his sleep. So, he didn't sleep well, and I didn't sleep well, and, well. That's life for you, I guess. I can still complain about it, though. It's my party.
So, I half think it's Evan, and half think it's my fault (and I so don't want to hear it if you think it's all my fault), but sleep has been an issue these long months. I do or have tried it all ... swaddling, bedtime routine, white noise, differentiation between night and day, swings, smells, bouncers, singing, baths, music, stories, walking, driving. He doesn't sleep on his back. He just doesn't. Not in the swing, not in the carseat, not swaddled. We have timed it, and we get 10 minutes if he's on his back, tops. Even if he's on his side, he sleeps restlessly at best (meaning, he hits me over and over in his sleep with his free arm, and he grunts). He will sleep on his tummy, but not for longer than 30 minutes if he's alone. He sleeps 3, 4 hours if I'm lucky for the first run of the night, then wakes up every 1 - 2 hours after that. He doesn't want to go to sleep until he's good and ready. And lately, that's at 1 am. Unfortunately, I still have to go to work.
Well, I'm tired, so that's really all I can think of to complain about.
I thought sleeping babies were cute before I had one. Now I think they're the most wonderful thing ever.
